Best Plumber Websites UK: What the Winners Actually Do (2026)

We analysed the plumber websites Google and Gemini actually surface across five UK cities. Here is what the winning sites have in common — and what to copy.

When we ran our five-city study of which plumbers Google and Gemini actually recommend, we ended up looking closely at dozens of UK plumbing websites — the ones winning the map pack, the ones AI assistants cite by name, and the many that exist but never surface anywhere. The gap between the two groups is not design flair. It is a short list of practical things the winning sites do and the invisible ones don't.

This article is that list. If you are a plumber deciding what your website needs — or judging a quote from a web designer — use it as your checklist.

What the winning plumber websites have in common

1. The phone number is the design. On sites like Birmingham's Jack The Plumber (5.0★ across 285 reviews and top of the city's map pack in our study), the number sits tap-ready at the top of every mobile screen. Plumbing searches are urgent — a burst pipe does not browse three pages of portfolio first. The best sites treat "call now" as the product and everything else as supporting evidence.

2. Reviews are shown, sourced, and current. Every plumber Google's local pack surfaced in our five cities had triple-digit or high-double-digit review counts displayed against a named profile — Leeds' Plumbers Leeds with 220 reviews, SFR Plumbing & Heating with 139. The pattern was blunt: no visible review footprint, no local pack, regardless of how good the website looked.

3. A real service-area page for every town they cover. The sites that surface for "plumber in [town]" have an actual page for that town — not a comma-separated list of place names in the footer. One page per area, each describing genuine local work, is still the most reliable local-SEO structure in the trade.

4. Gas Safe registration where you cannot miss it. Homeowners check; so do the systems deciding who to recommend. Winning sites put the registration number in the header or footer of every page, not buried on an about page.

5. Emergency framing with honest hours. "24/7 emergency plumber" converts — but only when it is true and consistent with the Google Business Profile hours. Mismatched hours between site and profile is one of the quiet trust-killers we saw on losing sites.

6. Structured data underneath. This is the invisible difference. When Gemini answered "best plumber in Birmingham" in our study, it cited Afterglow Plumbing & Heating — a business whose details machines can verify across its website and profiles. LocalBusiness, Service and FAQPage schema is how a website says the same thing to a machine that its homepage says to a human. Almost no small plumbing site has it; nearly every AI-cited one resolves cleanly to verifiable structured information.

7. Answers to the questions customers actually ask. Boiler repair cost. Why is my radiator cold at the bottom. Emergency call-out fees. The winning sites answer these on-page in plain language — which is exactly the content Google's AI Overviews and assistants like ChatGPT lift answers (and business names) from.

What about the famous ones?

London's Pimlico Plumbers ranks organically for almost everything in the capital — but as our city study showed, big-brand dominance in London tells a small firm very little. The more useful examples are the single-van businesses above: their websites win because of structure and proof, not budget. That should be encouraging. Every item on the list above is achievable for a local plumber; none of it requires a London-brand marketing department.

A DIY builder can put a page online. What it will not do is the schema, the per-town pages, and the answer-formatted content that decide whether you appear when a customer — or an AI — goes looking.

Everything in this checklist is what our plumber website design package builds as standard: £0 upfront, £149/month all-in, live in 14 days, and you own the site. Or check where you stand first — our free GEO rank checker scores any plumbing website against the criteria above in about a minute.
